More than 1300 doctors and nurses are taking care of Bay of Plenty patients
Health Minister Jonathan Coleman says a record number of doctors and nurses are working at the Bay of Plenty District Health Board.
Tauranga Hospital ED ClinicalDirector Dr Derek Sage is one of 312 doctors working for the Bay of Plenty District Health Board.
'Our dedicated health workforce is making a difference to the lives of patients in the Bay of Plenty,” says Jonathan.
As of March 31, there were 312 doctor and 1006 nurse full-time equivalents employed by Bay of Plenty DHB.
That's 74 more doctors and 155 more nurses compared to 2008.
This includes 43 more senior doctors and 22 more senior nurses.
The latest workforce figures for Bay of Plenty DHB are now available on the Ministry of Health's website.
'While many other countries are freezing or even reducing health funding, we are committed to protecting and growing our public health services,” says Jonathan.
'Health funding has increased every year under this Government and once again Health is expected to receive the largest share of new funding in Budget 2015 when it is released later this week.”

Fat lot of good for those who are over 60 and can't get job and are on a sickness benefit unable to afford proper diet to maintain health, with no money to pay for regular dentist or to buy glasses for reading or pay cost of more than one doctors visit per month of which winz refuses to recompense even though it is mandatory to get doctors to sign medical cert to get benefit.Add costs for transport etc if living in rural areas with zero public transport and one can see how easy it is to sicken & die in this country when on a Winz benefit or one of million or so on low wages etc. Successive NZ governments have refused to lift benefits while increasing all surrounding costs one is now legally required to meet under state applied sanctions via jobseeker. GENOCIDE of POOR is what IS.
