People are waking to evaluate the damage that has been left after a tornado tore through the Mount Maunganui and Bayfair area last night.

Trampolines were wrapped around lamp posts and roofs were lifted off homes.

People are assesing the damage this morning.

A command centre was set up at Bayfair to help field the calls that were coming in thick and fast after the tornado touched down around 8.30pm.

Caravans and ASB Stadium were also victims of the tornado.

Here are some photos from our photographer and readers.

All the above describes it certainly ain't no Cinderella's glass slipper and it is more likely to turn into a custard pumpkin at midnight than into a silk purse.

never was that, always was a sow's ear, wrinkly and hairy. That was the case before and is certainly the case afterwards.
