SunLive CompetitionLaughter is actor Peter Rowley’s favourite memory of friend Billy T James and he wants to share his memories with Tauranga. Peter worked with Billy T from the mid 1980s, and will host ‘Billy T and Me’, a night celebrating what made The Billy T James show a Kiwi icon.
“The audience should expect a night of humour, it is a combination of the best stuff we did, with a look behind the scenes.” Peter has already performed two shows in Christchurch and Whitianga. He says the response has been fantastic. “It was the first time in my life I had audience members coming up and hugging me. “People said to me, ‘Peter you are the only one that can bring us closer to Billy T James’. “I seem to be reminding them of the warm treasured moment in their lives.” Celebrating 20 years, Peter puts the show’s success down to Billy’s ability to unite New Zealand with humour. “He touched the hearts and minds of New Zealand. After the Springboks tour there was a real racial divide, but Billy just put his arm around everyone and said lets laugh at ourselves cause we are all together.” Humour also united Peter and Billy as he says their humour just clicked. “I loved accents, he loved accents. We used to laugh so much and I used to live at his house when we were writing. We had just as much fun off screen. We were kids, boys.” Win: Go in the draw to win a double pass with SunLive. “The show looks at why he chose me, why we clicked, and what it was like working with him on and off screen.
