SunLive Competition

The Yvonne Edwards School of Dance presents its annual production of The Nutcracker on Saturday, October 2 at Baycourt.

The ballet will be brought to life by a cast of more than 100 dancers, providing great family entertainment during the school holidays.

Director Yvonne Edwards says the dancers will follow the traditional Nutcracker Ballet interpretation, danced to the music of Tchaikovsky.

“The students loved having a focus throughout the winter term and are very excited at the prospect of performing on stage,” says Yvonne.

The Nutcracker is about Clara, a young girl who receives a nutcracker for Christmas. In a dream, all the toys under the Christmas tree come to life. The Nutcracker leads an army of toy soldiers to battle the Mouse King and his army of mice. Clara is led to the Land of Snow where snowflake fairies glide and twirl under the majesty of the Snow Queen, then on to the Kingdom of Sweets where the Sugar Plum Fairy reigns.

There are only two performances of The Nutcracker, at 2pm and 7pm, on October 2. Tickets are available at TicketDirect. The Weekend Sun has a double pass to the 2pm showing to give away to a lucky reader.

Entries must be received by September 22.
