SunLive - The Bay's news first

SunLive Competition

The hills will be alive with the sound of (blues) music on February 5. Whether you bring your own picnic and wine, or buy some at the event, the picnic offers a great way to spend a long summer’s day.

Organiser Peter Archers says the picnic is just about getting everybody out to enjoy a day of fun entertainment.

“The event aims at the 40-plus, but there is plenty of room to bring the family, and have the kids running around. There is a nice safe atmosphere, with beautiful views of the harbour.”

This is the fourth year the picnic has been run, and Peter says the event has drawn in crowds of “five to six hundred people in previous years”. Unlike earlier years, the picnic will run later into the night.

The line-up of Kiwi musicians includes Flaming Mud Cats, Jan Preston, Manalishi and Brilleaux—providing a mix of all different blues sounds.

“The day will start with a bit of acoustic, and then break into a boogie later on. The picnic gets a bit heavier as it gets later.”

February may be a few months away, but Peter says he has been “given the go-ahead” by Ken Ring of predictweather.com, who has promised the chosen date is set for sunshine. But if the weather suddenly changes, giant marquees will be on hand to provide shelter.

Early bird tickets are $35 and can be purchased from Ticket Direct. Gambinos and Bethlehem Wine and Spirits. Further information: www.bluespicnic.com.
