SunLive Competition

When Tauranga artist Lenore Safi attended a lecture on the art of Modigliani, she had no idea she would end up creating a book featuring her own paintings inspired by the modernist artist.

Lenore launches the book, The Sunday Girl – The Adventures of Virginia, and her cats, at an exhibition at Creative Tauranga opening October 28 and running until November 5.

“Virginia (the character Lenore created) was such fun that I painted her several times and wrote little anecdotes about each one,” says Lenore.

She first produced greeting cards from the paintings but then her daughter suggested she create a book.

The book includes a story and artists notes relating to each illustration.

“The book has a subtle message that girls can do anything.”

The exhibition is open 10am-4pm and all works are for sale. The book costs $16 and will be for sale at the exhibition.

Win: A copy of The Sunday Girl with SunLive. Only people registered on SunLive are eligible to win.
