SunLive - The Bay's news first

SunLive Competition

Lovers of Pink Floyd and Eric Clapton are expected to converge in Okoroire for the first ‘MLC @ The Oko’ concert.

The concert, which is expected to attract up to 5000 people, features popular Pink Floyd cover band Eclipse and the Eric Clapton Show, featuring the Winch brothers and the New Zealand Blues Brothers.

Organiser Warwick Hall from Iguana NZ promoters says the concert’s name – M.L.C – stands for ‘Mid-Life Crisis’, a tongue-in-cheek dig at the demographic it’s aimed at.

He says there were already a lot of live music shows around for the under-30 age group and he hopes to appeal to the over-30 group with this concert.

“We have three bands that are all highly credited and will appeal to that age group.”

It is the first big gig to be held at the Okoroire Hot Springs Hotel, held on the adjoining golf course on Saturday, May 7.

“We’d love to have 4000-5000 people through the gate and at $38, it’s pretty good,” says Warwick.

He says the concert is all about having a good night out and there is free camping on-site so people can avoid driving home.

All the bands are playing on an outdoor stage and Eclipse are accompanied by a light show.

Warwick says the venture was not about making money, but rather creating something which appeals to an older demographic.

People from all around the Waikato and Bay of Plenty are being encouraged to come to the event.
