SunLive Competition

There is nothing like a refreshing glass of Old Mout Cider at the end of the day.

Cider has grown hugely in popularity in New Zealand; personally I have been drinking it for quite a long time. Old Mout Cider has been around for over 60 years and is made in Nelson since 1947.

The great new packaging on Old Mout Cider bottles says it all: a home grown independent ‘indie’ cider that appeals to cider lovers from all walks of life.

There are new flavours to appeal to all palates:

  • Boysencider is a union of refreshing apple cider with succulent boysenberry wine. Try it at the end of a meal with a nice melted brie, creamy blue cheese or fruit.
  • Feijoa and Cider is a delectable apple cider, combined with zingy fruit wine from feijoas. This was definitely my favourite. Try it with Thai green curry.
  • Classic Apple is a light clear cider with a crisp finish. Try it as a starter with a calamari salad.
  • Scrumpy is a gutsy apple flavour which packs a fair wallop. Try it with barbecued pork spare ribs.

Last year at the Indy International Wine Competition Old Mout was awarded seven major medals. There are still few hot summer days to go so plenty of time to try out some of these new flavours. I particularly like my cider poured over ice.
