SunLive Competition

Get drawn into the world of singer/songwriter Nicky Rubin and fall in love with the passion for his work, his stories and his voice, which is tempered by the kilometres, weathered by the storms and watered by the ocean.

Born in Manchester, England, under grey skies, Nicky has travelled a long way since.

His music, which can be described as ‘acoustic rock with an alternative edge’, is quite simply his life story.

Educated in boarding schools in England and Paris, Nicky had an ambition to travel and as a teenager he hitch-hiked to India and worked for a French antiques company based in Kabul and Pakistan.

After three years he returned to Paris, working for the same company. He sang and played drums in a cellar through the night when he was not on long European road trips pedalling his wares. It was on these tours that he realised he would rather have rock ‘n roll gear in the back of the van than antiques from the Orient.

Nicky has crossed continents as a solo artist from Europe to Asia, Africa, Latin America and North America, recently completing a stint in the Ukraine and Russia where he formed a band and toured between Kiev and Moscow. He is to the open road what Jack Johnson is to surfing. His songs are born out of love, heartbreak and the sheer joy of life peppered with references to the darker side.

Nicky will perform a dinner concert at Mills Reef Winery at 6.30pm on March 3. Entry costs $20.
