SunLive CompetitionThe debut album for Tauranga band Red Light Pledge is looking to shed light on the underground genre of post-hardcore with the album release set on February 25. The Tauranga band is part of a larger post-hardcore family in the area, under the banner of Scream in Black productions. The production company, started by singer and guitarist Rob Sadd, was his way of “bringing out the underground bands that don’t get to be heard”.
“The scene is definitely more underground. I think there is a need in Tauranga for this music, and if we push it hard enough people will hear it. With the old bands, we were playing gigs every weekend, playing more punk back then.” Taking their name from Canadian post-hardcore band Silverstein, Red Light Pledge describe themselves as ‘the Bay Of Plenty’s premiere post-hardcore band’, and ominously beginning on Friday 13 in August last year, Red Light Pledge give off this dark, punk vibe. They are quite the contrary however. With a song titled ‘Dance With Me Tonight’, drummer Tom Jimenez says the band “is pretty much a friendly slap to the face”. “The show will be a good dance. We are post-hardcore, but with a mix of elements like techno and pop as well as hardcore punk. We have this unique sound.” The band members have already made mileage in their previous bands, but after their first show releasing the EP, Red Light Pledge are looking to tour the North Island this year. Red Light Pledge EP release is on February 25 at Krazy Jacks. Doors open at 10.30pm. The event is strictly R18 due to venue restrictions.
