Rose a great wine for Christmas

Nothing beats a nice glass of lightly chilled Rose served as an aperitif. Mix it with a bit of sunshine and good company, serve up a plate of crustini topped with sliced slow roasted field mushrooms or pesto and tomato, sit back, relax and enjoy.

The Mt Difficulty 2011 Pinot Noir Rose from Central Otago is a lovely bone dry Rose. Quite dark in colour for a Pinot Rose as the skins were left on for five days to extract maximum flavour and colour. The result is a really nice savoury wine. It displays lovely strong red berry fruit and floral characters.

Certainly a very enjoyable drop. Rose makes such a nice change, always looks attractive on the table served in nice glassware, a great addition to the Christmas dinner table.

Update from Mt Difficulty

Posted on 30-11-2011 10:58 | By JacatMtD

Hi all - Mt Difficulty Rosé 2011 is only sold out at our own Cellar Door. Almost all the 2011 vintage went to our NZ distributor Lion so you should be able to buy it in the Bay. First up try your local Liquor King or Super Liquor. Promise we will try to make a lot more next year!

WHY TALK ABOUT IT

Sad excuse for a red, not a white either, and the price of $25 a bottle is certinaly over the top. On the Mount Difficulty website says it is sold out means that the author perhaps cornered teh market and so no one can say she is right or wrong.

All a bit academic really as website says 2011 vintage sold out !

Pretty pink salmony rose with a fruity aroma. Has a suggestion of residual sugar and a mix of acidity and tannins giving a dry slightly woody finish.A quaffing 3 Star wine.
