Hand-harvested wine

The Trinity Hill 2009 Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay is described by John Hancock as a very elegant wine.

t is produced from grapes hand-harvested from two vineyards in the Gimblett Gravels, plus two further south from the cooler parts of the Hawke’s Bay.

The bunches were gently whole bunch pressed and the juice then fermented and aged in a mixture of new and older French oak bariques for about 10 months.

This was a very drinkable chardonnay, very nicely balanced.

Scott at $20 a bottle I hope it is a bit better than a quaffer mate.

Only intro wine for the novice, any class to the act here would have long since moved on from here.

Not quite right

Records on 2009 vintage tend to show mostly handled in tanks with only 20% of the blend fermented in French oak barrels.Reasonable example of a fruit driven style with grapefruit and peach flavours. Nothing to write home about.3 star level only.
