The second round of the Otumoetai Action Centre Ladies and Mens singles was held last Thursday, the quaility of play was evident in the large number of people with three wins. The Tauranga/BOP women’s 50+ team is the best in New Zealand after winning the 2010 National Masters Hockey Tournament held in Nelson last week. The team managed a 2-0 win against Auckland in the final, despite losing their goalie for a period when she was sin binned for dissent. A double century and a five-wicket bag from the new Baywide competition leaders were the highlights of round six of the BOP Cup played on Saturday. Mount Maunganui batsmen Mark Divehall, who by his own admission has been having a lean season at the batting crease, came right with a bang in the match against Rotorua Boys’ High at Smallbone Park in Rotorua. About 700 students from the Bay of Plenty, Gisborne and Taupo participated in the annual Sport Bay of Plenty Quadathlon at Pilot Bay on Friday morning. With surf lifesaving nationals next weekend at Ohope, Papamoa is looking to rack up more medals following strong performances at last month’s Bay of Plenty champs.
