Tauranga St John Ambulance staff say a woman who escaped with only minor injuries after being struck by a car, is extremely lucky.
The 27 year old was walking along Pyes Pa Road near Kennedy Road at 10.45pm on Saturday when it is believed she was hit by a passing car. The section of State Highway 36 has a 100kmh speed limit. She was taken to Tauranga hospital.

There's $9.5 million available for Rugby World Cup parties available to anyone who can think of a good way to spend it.
The government announced the fund on Wednesday, saying the Lotteries fund is to support community events and activities for the Rugby World Cup 2011.

Two Tauranga teenagers, Courtney Tilby and Olivia Scott-Price, are hoping to gain the support of builders in their effort to build a house in the slums of Mexico.
They have obtained a 20ft NZL Cube shipping container that they are auctioning off for a two month rental, with proceeds going towards their house-building trip.

A six month old Persian Chinchilla from Papamoa, called Ewok, is a finalist in New Zealand's Next Top Cat Model competition.
