Partying money up for grabs

There's $9.5 million available for Rugby World Cup parties available to anyone who can think of a good way to spend it.

The government announced the fund on Wednesday, saying the Lotteries fund is to support community events and activities for the Rugby World Cup 2011.
Tauranga MP Simon Bridges says the fund will ensure some great ideas are brought to life.
"The world cup is more than just the matches," says Simon, "we want to make sure our visitors get to see our country, meet our people and have a great time in between the games.
"Twenty-three centres around the country are hosting games or teams, bringing widespread economic benefits.
"This fund will ensure that Tauranga can make the most of the opportunity. There are already some great event and activity ideas out there. We want to hear more."
Applications for the New Zealand 2011 Festival Lottery Fund will open July 27 and close on August 31. Successful applicants will be announced by the end of October.
New Zealand 2011 Office Festival Director Briony Ellis says Tauranga has already put forward some great ideas for the festival.
People with ideas are advised to contact Peter Melgren at the Tauranga City Council.
The Bay of Plenty regional festival coordinator Dale Henderson says Peter will be able to mix and match if people approach seeking funding for similar ideas.
"The world's your oyster," says Dale.
"We are looking at events that show a point of difference for Tauranga."
Tauranga has to be realistic about how many visitors are likely to be in the region, but there could be more travelling through on any particular day.
Existing events could also look attracting the lottery fund support by changing their start dates to fit in with the Rugby World Cup festival, says Dale.

Hes a YES man thats why
QUESTION:
Why does Simon only come out on the so-called good news items like giving away our hard-earned tax dollars on some party.

ANSWER: Because he is politically about as deep as a puddle in a shower of rain!

He is a principle bereft YES MAN for the National Party that will do as he is told without using his own mind or judgement based upon his parties principles - YES, they DO have them - but I BET not ONE of them could QUOTE them.

our good news MP
Why does Simon only come out on the so-called good news items like giving away our hard-earned tax dollars on some party. I was looking for a breath of fresh air with our new MP. I'm yet to reach a judgement, but I would like to see more of his opinions on the things that are controversial like the Climate trading scheme, the seabed and foreshore, and health.

yippee - a lolly scramble
Another Lolly scramble
Yippee - Us Kiwis just LOVE a good Lolly Scramble

This kind of thing just beats me - I mean here (the rugby world cup event) is a great opportunity to make some money for anybody who wants to.

Us entertainers and proprietors and venue owners are doing this all the time - it is how we survive

WHY - Please explain WHY council and government have to get involved - I mean - Im stuck for words!

Why don't they just bugger off and let us do what we do

WHY must they get involved - its just justifying the existence of bureaucrats, and paying their wages to be involved in things that can be done quite successfully WITHOUT THEM.

As for Simon Bridges saying that the fund will ensure some great ideas come to life - They will anyway without your fund.

Just think of all the people whose life could be a whole lot better instead of being on the waiting list of their die-while-you wait health system.

Let entertainment people worry about the entertainment business - they are a whole lot better and more efficient at it than YOU ARE

This all proves a bit of a dilema for me personally though

Do I spurn the events funded by this immoral means, and hope you all choke on your lolly scramble.

OR

Do I grab as many lollies as possible and get back some of the lollies I have been forced to pay for?

Bellevue's where it's at
We'll be having a few friends around for a barbie before the ABs games, and once we're all liquored up will probably pop out and tag my fence before the neighbours get to it....half a million should cover it, cheers

Can my Nana .........
Please have a new hip out of the 9.5 mill

What will be the Rugby World Cup's biggest impact on NZ?

A tonne of tourists will fall in love with NZ.
It will provide the economic stimulus NZ needs.
NZ's roads will be bruised with shattered beer bottles.
NZ rugby playing numbers will increase.
International media exposure will forever boost tourism.
NZ will not recoup the costs of hosting the event.
It's all a load of hype and it won't make a difference.
