Youth innovation on show

Business creations from the Young Innovator Awards are now at Creative Tauranga for public viewing. There are eight items on display with admission free.
Jonathan Kent and Savana Woodcock, the winners of the senior and junior categories have their pieces on display so people can see what it took to impress the judges.

Jonathan Kent's innovation is now on display at Creative Tauranga.

Jonathan, a Tauranga Boys' College student, the senior category winner invented an automatic screen cleaner. It is used to help cut down the amount of vegetation that builds up on the Ngatuhoa Lodge's hydro generator screen, especially in bad weather. The screen is made of various little bars, which can threaten power and water supply if the vegetation builds up too much.
"It could mean the difference between power and no power," says Jonathan's father Graham Kent, who supervised the project, which is now on display.
"The exhibits are on boards or tables, so the public will be able to see them easily. There are not many there, but the items that are are so creative," says Creative Tauranga's Deborah Howe.

The exhibits are on display until Sunday, August 1 at Creative Tauranga at 112 Willow Street.

How much do you value Fathers' Day?

Heaps, it's important to celebrate dads!
Not really, it's just another greeting card holiday.
As long as it rates behind Mothers' Day I'm happy.
It's tops - make it a public holiday!
I'm not bothered by Fathers' Day.
