Football tournament sets new record

Over 700 players from 66 teams enjoyed the Mid-Season Junior Football Tournament held at Gordon Spratt Reserve at the start of July.
This was an increase on the 54 teams that participated last year and drew entries from Taumaranui, Taupo, Waikato, Bay of Plenty and Auckland.

Papamoa Football Club secretary Jane White says the tournament's emphasis was on enjoyment with meeting and competing against children from visiting teams a key element of this along with fair play and sportsmanship.
She says the quality of football on display was amazing and thought there were definitely a few All Whites of the future competing.

The club wishes to thank all the teams that competed, the referees that volunteered their time, the committee and club members who were involved and everyone else who helped.  This includes sponsors: Subway, Ocean Blue, Mitre 10, The Warehouse, Palm Beach Plaza, Mt New World, Main freight,  Bunnings Warehouse,  LJ Hooker, McEntee Hire and Xpresso Delight.

How much do you value Fathers' Day?

Heaps, it's important to celebrate dads!
Not really, it's just another greeting card holiday.
As long as it rates behind Mothers' Day I'm happy.
It's tops - make it a public holiday!
I'm not bothered by Fathers' Day.
