Motorists rush to the pumps

Tauranga motorists spent Wednesday afternoon rushing to a select group of petrol stations, which had not yet raised fuel prices.
Staff at the Gull service station on Hewletts Road in Mount Maunganui say they were inundated with motorists fuelling up from about midday.

Gull Hewletts Road at 4pm on Wednesday.

A litre of 91 unleaded has increased to $1.83 a litre and to $1.16 for diesel, the largest increase in 18 months.
The Automobile Association has described the hike as an “uncomfortable price point”.
Gull on Hewletts Road is one of the petrol stations in the city that had not yet raised fuel prices.

The company is expected to follow the petrol hikes but Tauranga motorists were getting in before that happened.

What Ever AA
" Uncomfortable Price point" I thought The Auto Ass was a paid by members consumer assistance group...This comment reaks of Political Bull dust. Why do we leave alternative fuel manufactoring to car companies??? Why don't we force, by taxation, the oil companies over the next 10 years to invest in national (Government) managed research that will cost us now but take the power from both the arab countries and oil barons or is that an "Uncomforatble thought" from a motorist sick of being held hostage by greedy oil companies
and badly represented by the AA

Has the government made the right decision by tolling the Te Puke bypass?

Yes, it's great for business to build it fast.
No, it's just another increased cost for households.
Yes, it will make the roads safer sooner.
No, there is no need to rush.
