Bay of Plenty small to medium sized companies are driving the growth in the Bay of Plenty’s economy, says the chairman of the Bay of Plenty branch of the New Zealand Institute of Directors.
“There’s a lot of growth happening in the Bay of Plenty and SMEs are driving that, which is a very very special feature of the Bay of Plenty,” says branch chairman Will Wilson.

The Bay of Plenty branch was established in January and has already attracted 250 SMEs in the region, which Will expects to grow by 20 per cent every year.
A new online initiative from the institute has been launched to provide SMEs with practical guidance for improving their systems and governance.

“The BOP branch vision is to improve governance performance and competency to create wealth.
“The BOP branch is planning to hold a number of workshops throughout this year on First Generation Governance with companies who may be interested in taking that first step in terms of formalising their governance structure.”
