Domain lock out at Papamoa
Young people who have taken to assembling and drinking in Papamoa Domain are likely to be locked out at nights.
Tauranga City Council is asking staff to do this after hearing from Papamoa police about what goes on there.
Police are concerned that unless something is done about the alcohol, broken glass and fighting which happens there, there is a high possibility someone will be seriously injured or killed in the domain, says Councillor Wayne Moultrie.

Papamoa Domain may be locked up at night if police and concerned residents have their way.
Wayne and Deputy Mayor David Stewart say the issue is very strongly felt by the residents who heard Papamoa police sergeant Mark Pakes’ talk at the Papamoa Progressive Association meeting on Monday night.
There have been a number of incidents where a lone police officer has been forced to retreat from the domain by large numbers of bottle wielding, aggressive young people.
“They (police) don’t have the numbers,” says Wayne.
“If a change can be made by doing something as simple as chaining off the entrance to the car park, that would be a first step.
“We as a council have the ability to make a simple and effective change to help overcome the difficulty.”
The crowd will re-gather further down the road, says Wayne but the other areas are smaller and more easily controlled.
The council referred the matter to council staff to review and act accordingly.
