Mount water main breaks

It is Mount Mauganui residents’ turn to conserve water after a major water main burst at Omanu Golf Course early Tuesday.
Repairs are not expected to be complicated and should be finished by the end of the day.

The site of the break.

Water operations engineer Dave Keeble says the water main which supplies the Mount Maunganui reservoir burst about 2am.
A limited supply is being maintained to the reservoir on the Mount through other water mains.
The pipe that broke is one of the older asbestos/cement pipes, says Dave.
“At this time of year we do tend to get a few more breakages,” says Dave.
“The ground dries out the water tables all round tend to drop.”
The Omanu golf course used to irrigate with reclaimed water, but in recent years returned to drawing irrigation water from its own bore.
Golfers will be inconvenienced.
