Car rolls on State Highway 2

Traffic came to a crawl on State Highway 2 near Te Puna on Monday afternoon when a car veered off the road and rolled on its roof.
The car crashed at the entrance of a private driveway at about 3.15pm on Monday near Te Puna Road.


A German tourist is examined at the scene by St John medical staff after he crashed and rolled his car on State Highway 2 near Te Puna on Monday afternoon.

A 29 year old man, who was visiting from Germany, was the only occupant of the vehicle and was treated by St John medical staff at the scene but did not require further treatment.
A heavy stream of traffic heading from Tauranga was brought to a crawl while emergency services were at the scene.
Senior sergeant Ian Campion says investigations are continuing into the cause of the crash but has ruled out speed and alcohol as a factor.
“It could have been fatigue, he could have fallen asleep, it could have been a whole raft of things,” says Ian.
There was a separate crash at the summit of the Kaimai Ranges on State Highway 29 at midnight on Monday.
A 19 year old male driver from Otorohanga was taken to Tauranga Hospital via ambulance in a serious but stable condition.
St John staff were unsure what caused the crash.
