Hundreds form giant jandal

Hundreds of people turned out at Mount Maunganui Main Beach over the weekend to form a giant floating jandal.
Each of the 242 participants floated out into the water on an inflatable Havaianas lilo and kept together by holding onto ropes.

The event was held on Waitangi Day to celebrate the jandal as a New Zealand icon.
The participants paid $20 to take part in the event, with $5 going to Mount Maunganui, Omanu and Papamoa Surf Lifesaving Clubs.
